The Lanka Japan Friendship Society celebrated their 60th Anniversary

“The Lanka Japan Friendship Society celebrated their 60th Anniversary on a grand scale at the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Galadari Colombo on 11th March 2016 with over 230 members and guests attending the dinner function.
His Excellency Kenichi Suganuma, Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka was the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included the Hon Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Science, Technology and Research and Madame Asako Okai, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission of the Japanese Embassy. President LJFS Sumana D. Liyanage was the host.

The highlights of the day’s ceremony were the screening of a documentary on the society’s past activities; granting of scholarships to needy students to study the Japanese language; publication of a souvenir to commemorate the 60th Anniversary; & launching of the revised membership Directory, followed by networking and fellowship.

Earlier on the same day, Cherry Blossom trees specially air-freighted from Japan were planted at the Vihara Maha Devi park to commemorate the event under the patronage of His Excellency Ambassador Suganuma.

Two other programs i.e. conducting of a memorial service for victims of the Great Eastern Tsunami of March 2011 is to be held at the Gangarama Temple on Friday 18th March 2016 and a Health Camp for the needy is to be conducted at the Sedawatte Purana Viharaya, Peliyagoda On Sat 19th March 2016.”
